From ziplining through the rainforest, to kayaking in national parks, to traversing sky bridges in the volcano region, Costa Rica is an explorer’s paradise. Visiting two or three areas of this diverse country is recommended so that you can immerse yourself in the vibrant city life in San Jose, the peaceful beaches at the Manuel Antonio Marine Reserve, and the high-adventure central regions. With dozens of beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, you can experience black volcanic sands at Playa Hermosa or the sparkling white sands of the north Pacific coast.
Delta Vacations, one of our preferred partners in Costa Rica, offers our clients a variety of vacation packages in the three most popular regions:

Liberia and Guanacaste
This area of northwest Costa Rica, known as the Guanacaste region, offers numerous activities along the beach, in the charming towns, and in the nearby rain forests. Most hotels are located on the beach, and several are all-inclusive. Who should go?

San Jose & Pacific Coast
For those drawn to the excitement of city life, the bustling and cosmopolitan capital of San Jose is a great destination. Glass-mirrored high rises, cozy restaurants, lively nightclubs, and classic theaters flourish within the city limits. Most hotels are internationally recognized chains and are located in the downtown area or nearby. Who should go?

- Adventurers: Explore the rain forest, take a mountain hike, go kayaking, or propel through the rainforest.
Activities in Costa Rica:
The rain forests around Arenal Volcano and the Monteverde area are one of the Earth’s most complex and important ecosystems to view wildlife, exotic plants, and spectacular waterfalls.
There’s nothing like riding a sturdy horse through the rain forest. Let the horse lead you on an exciting journey through vibrant rain forests, where unique flora and fauna unfold all around.
Depart from the delightful town of La Fortuna to enjoy a pleasant morning of kayaking on Lake Arenal with breathtaking views of the Arenal Volcano. On your trip you may observe different species of birds, such as the flycatcher, kingfisher, great blue heron, and anhinga. Listen for the disconcerting roar of the Howler monkeys.
Take advantage of Lake Arenal’s winds and surf along beautiful blue waters while enjoying superb vistas of the region’s mountains. For the seriously adventurous, turn to the high-octane sport of kiteboarding, and get whisked high above the waves for some heart-pumping fun.
Must-See Spots in Costa Rica:
Tabacón Hot Springs
At Tabacón Hot Springs, enjoy natural thermal springs with a spectacular view of Arenal Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the Americas. Make sure to bring a swimsuit, or wear one under your clothes.
Enjoy viewing stations around Arenal Volcano. Watch as lava slides down the sides of this impressive and lively crater. On a clear evening you can see rocks spewing skyward and molten lava rolling down its sides. Arenal has been in a constant state of activity — eruptions, accompanied by thunderous rumbling sounds, are sometimes as frequent as one per hour.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest
Monteverde is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges in the New World Tropics. In this cloud forest there are more than 100 species of mammals, more than 400 species of birds–including 30 kinds of hummingbirds, thousands of insect species, and 2,500 species of plants–including 420 kinds of orchids.
Arenal Volcano Viewing
Cloud cover makes volcano viewing the luck of the draw, and no one can negotiate with Mother Nature. Early mornings and dry season give you the best chances for seeing it in action.
In northwest Guanacaste, you can swim in warm tropical waters or soak up the sun on palm tree-lined beaches. There are almost a hundred beaches in Costa Rica that appear on most maps, but there are over two hundred more that don’t. Rent a car and find a beach of your own.
The area is home to almost 100 world-record catches, including blue marlin and Pacific sailfish. Anglers will find some of the best blue water and inshore fishing in the world. The town of Tamarindo will have charter fleets. Fresh water fishing can be done on Lake Arenal.
